The First Encounter

Everyone have their first encounter with design. Some have similar experience and some have different. We all have a history with some sort of design, meanwhile that certain design has its own history. My first encounter with design was with bell bottom jeans. That style of jeans dated back to the 1970s and carried on until the 1990s. The first jean brand was Levi, and is also the first to come up with bell bottom jeans. Not long after many other manufacturer began to produce bell bottoms or denim. The design of the bell bottoms was unique and fashionable at those times. The idea of bell bottoms originates from the sailor suits back in 1817, it is design so that while working on the deck it would be more convenient to roll up the bottom of the pants, have more leg room, and can be easily taken off without struggling. That was how bell bottom jeans became so popular in the 1970s to 1990s. Another way of making it famously popular or to lead the attention of the public attention towards that fashion, is designing it for celebrities. The audience will notice the style and want to be like their idol and will start to wear that style. Such as Elvis Presley, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, Aston Kutcher, and etc… Many of them may have worn bell bottoms in movies, TV, or just going out.

Although bell bottoms were made for convenience of sailors in the 1800s, and died out during the late 1990s, they are comfortable in other ways. The design of the bell bottoms gives some leg room and flares out as if it is directing the eyes somewhere. If a person starts their gaze from the bottom and work their way up, it leads towards the slim part of the pants which makes the body slimmer. In which fashion is to make the person who wears it look good. If a person starts their gaze from the top and work their way down, the bell bottom will be complimenting the shoes. This is my opinion of bell bottoms as I first encounter it as a child, and worn it as a style until I was a teenager. It was my opinion then and still is now, also bell bottoms has given us an idea of what the innovation is about.

Bell bottoms may not be as popular as before but it is still being worn today. The designs of boot cut jeans innovated from bell bottoms and are really popular at this age. Boot cut jeans are design to be worn with boots so that the flare bottom of the jeans can go over the boot with no difficulty. Bell bottoms may not be as popular as it was in the 1970s to 1990s but it is still being recognized today and being worn by both male and female. Bell bottom Jeans had been worn from the past until today and will continue to be worn in the future.  The old design will be brought back and innovated to create something that will be known as “new”.
